Cedric Smith

— Cedric Smith—

Cedric Smith (b. 1970) is a self-taught painter and photographer based in Macon, Georgia. Drawing from vintage photography, advertising, and Southern iconography, Smith reimagines history through bold, layered works that center Black life and culture. His paintings often explore the absence of Black representation in historical narratives—especially in advertising, equestrian culture, and luxury branding.Inspired by a chance encounter with artist William Tolliver, Smith left a career in barbering to pursue art full-time. His work has been exhibited at the Paul R. Jones Museum, the Mint Museum, and numerous galleries across the country. Through series like Horsepower and Couture, Smith reclaims and reframes overlooked histories with power and elegance.
