Redefining fine art since 1987

Thelma Harris

The Thelma Harris Art Gallery has been presenting museum-quality exhibitions and helping its clients to build impressive art collections for over two decades. Specializing in works by contemporary African American artists, the gallery in 2005, marks its fifteenth year as a venue for emerging, mid-career and established painters, sculptors and mixed media artists. With featured contemporary artists that include Claude Clark, Jonathan Green, Artis Lane and Ed Dwight, the gallery handles works by such Harlem Renaissance masters as Palmer Hayden and Aaron Douglas, and is the exclusive agent for the estate of William Tolliver.

Each year, the gallery assembles about ten special exhibitions that explore contemporary themes, or examine the work of individual artists. Its well edited inventory – with figurative, abstract, landscape, still life, portraiture and mixed media works—offers clients a continual source of high-quality art on view.

The philosophy of the gallery is personal for its founder, Thelma Harris. From her earliest days as a private dealer, Harris has been actively involved in supporting and promoting those artists whose work she believes in. To her credit and theirs, these artists’ works have steadily appreciated in value.

Well known for the individual attention and personal service it provides, the gallery serves both seasoned and first-time collectors. It works closely with clients to help conceptualize and build specific collections or acquire a particular work of art. Thelma maintains a close relationship with clients as their collections develop and expand.

A wide range of expertise in acquisition, curatorial and appraisal services, framing, conservation, lighting and client education have secured the gallery an impressive clientele of private collectors. Regardless of the level of investment or the extent of one’s collection, clients find that the broad selection of art and the attention to personal service make for a memorable experience with the Thelma Harris Art Gallery.
